WILMA MATYK SONOGA Obituary Wilma Matyk Sonoga passed away in Auburn, Ala., Wednesday, July 16, 2014, after a brief illness. She was born August 1, 1919, in Rices Landing, a daughter of Barbara and Andrew Matyk. Mrs. Sonoga married John Paul Sonoga in 1942 and lived in Marianna for more than 65 years. Deceased are her husband John; son John William Sonoga; four brothers, Andrew, George, Paul and Edward Matyk; and four sisters, Mary Biskup, Helen Slanina, Barbara Stemnock and Sister Mary Anna Matyk, O.S.F. Surviving are her daughter, JoAnn (Joseph) Oven of Auburn, and grandsons Jay (Tracy) Sonoga of Phoenix, Ariz., Thadd (Tammy) Sonoga of Rochester, N.Y., Josh (Jeneane) Sonoga of Morgantown, W.Va., Joe (Laura) Oven of Phoenix and Matt (Kathleen) Oven of Denver, Colo. Mrs. Sonoga had 10 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who always encouraged and supported her family. Mrs. Sonoga was a member of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, Saints Mary and Ann Roman Catholic Church, Marianna. Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1728 Main Street, Marianna. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, in St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, Saints Mary and Ann Roman Catholic Church, Marianna. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
