WINNER! My art will be on display in NYC at Grand Central Station for a one day show in only 2 days and Ill be there. Remember this artwork? I sent it to a national cancer charity art contest this summer and its been chosen as best pastel. A $1000 donation will be made to the cancer charity of my choice. Many small details for inquiring minds: 17 winners in a variety of art mediums were chosen by a team of judges from entries from across the nation. Those 17, and other entries to make 100, will be exhibited at a one day show at Grand Central on October 23rd, 2014 opening at 7am. There will simultaneously be a cancer awareness mural going up at Grand Central around 11 am, and Ive been invited to paint part of it! What a thrill. Ill be at Grand Central with my daughter, Stephanie around 11 or 12ish. Later, starting in January, the artwork will be in a traveling gallery all around the nation for two years and a book will be made of the artwork. My artwork is titled Outside Looking In. It speaks to our familys cancer journey experience when our son had pediatric cancer several years ago. When you or a loved one is very ill for a long time, a lot of life passes by, you might passively observe outside life, and the changing of seasons, separated by panes of glass. When our son miraculously recovered after multiple resuscitations, several surgeries, liver resection, and long months of treatment, we felt the joy of him finally being on the outside of the glass looking in, and participating in life. This scene was from a special day at a farm where we spent time celebrating our sons recovery along with the emergency room doctor who was first responder, along with the doctors young family. Our son was finally on the outside looking in.
