WINNING EACH DAY DEVOTIONAL 2Cor 2:14 And thanks be to God who ALWAYS causes us to triumph... June 15, 2013 TEXT: 2Kings 6 THE OFFICER ON WHOSE HAND THE KING LEANED Kings have advisers that are supposed to make insightful contributions to the development of the kingdom. Advisers are appointed to offer words of wisdom. There was a terrible famine in Israel and Elisha had prophesied that there would be open heavens. The “officer on whose hand the king leaned” scorned God’s word and trusted in human wisdom. Abundance came. He saw it but died without partaking of it. The “officer on whose hand the king leaned” represents a mindset that believes human experience over God’s word. There’s a danger that comes with trusting our intellect above the simplicity of the gospel. The Bible speaks of a higher wisdom that we should operate in. The Tower of Babel was the highest edifice born of man’s ingenuity, yet when God wanted to observe it, He came DOWN! The God-kind of wisdom is always higher. The famine in 1KINGS 6 came in the first place because Israel’s king was wise in his own eyes: Ben Hadad was divinely delivered into the hands of Israel but the king of Israel spared him, against God’s will. (1KINGS 20). As a result, Ben Hadad was able to come later and lay a siege on Israel. (2KINGS 6). LESSONS 1. To partake of a prophetic word, you must key into it: believe it and confess it. Rejoice because it has already happened! Engage the weapon of praise and thanksgiving. Joyful shouts are found only in the camp of the victorious. 2. Align with God’s will in order to move from victory to victory: There are consequences for disobedience. Do not give the devil a foothold. 3. Trust God: His word is the final authority- not the situation you’re going through. When you can’t trace Him, trust Him. 4. Fellowship with the Holy Spirit: that’s the way to access true wisdom. CONFESSION: I operate in the God-kind of wisdom! PRAYER: Lord, help me trust you even when I can’t trace you. Thank you for directing my path into victory.
