WINNING WISDOM DAILY DEVOTIONAL - FRIDAY 21ST JUNE, 2013 - THE POWER OF A PERSONAL EXAMPLE – PART TWENTY “Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.” James 3:13 How we treat others is always a consequence of who we are. A miserable man will infect his environment with misery. A hateful, bitter person will spread his bitterness to everyone and everything he touches. Therefore a meek person will treat everyone in his path meekly. We must not forget that everyone you see has challenges and undergoing some level of stress. If you can’t help them, please don’t add to their troubles. We owe each other understanding and compassion. “Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,” Philippians 2:1 Encouragement is a service we all owe each other daily. To encourage simply means to ‘put courage into each other - the courage to wake up every morning and face up to each day’s daunting task; courage to try again and pull success out of the pit of failure of previous attempts; the courage to stand up for what is right and true in the face of what is easy and beneficial. We all need a lot of courage each day to face up to the injustices, unfair treatment of people and unrighteousness that pervades our atmosphere. Meekness is the intestinal capacity to be unselfish, to value the dignity and comfort of others. It is the courage to respect the needs of other. Meekness respects the right of others to peace, rest and liberty. When we lack meekness, we live like the world owes us but meekness helps us to accommodate the needs of others. Others deserve to be at peace, to have achievements, joy and satisfaction. In our Philippians text above, the following words stand out - encouragement, comfort, common sharing, tenderness and compassion. These we all owe ourselves. You owe me encouragement, not discouragement just as I owe it to you too. We need to audit each day before we sleep. Who did I encourage today? Who did I comfort today? Who did I share with today? Who drank from my tap of kindness today? Have I been tender to everyone I met today? Have I had compassion one anyone today? Living and showing these attributes in our every interpersonal relationship is real evangelism. The world is tired of hearing us say that God is good. They are saying - show us. Anyday without a good deed is not a good day. (To be continued) NB: A. If you like your friends and family to receive and be blessed by this devotional, please forward their email addresses to me. B.
