WINNING WISDOM DEVOTIONAL - TUESDAY 27TH AUGUST, 2013 - EVERY MAN A WARRIOR - SIX - STOP MAKING EXCUSES But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 1:7-8 You will never start succeeding until you stop making excuses. Take responsibility for all that goes wrong as well as right in your life. Making excuses worsens an already bad case. If you flunked the test, be responsible and matured enough to admit you flunked it and decide to do better next time. Making excuses only squanders the energy that you should put into another attempt. Excuses, however genuine take something away from who you are. Itmay even be true but it is not right. Like a great American President,Roosevelt said, "the buck stops here." Because he took his responsibilityas President serious, he took the blame for all that went wrong in the system though he may not have been directly responsible for it. That is leadership. Excuses lower our expectations of ourselves. That is a fatal thing to do. When we refuse to take blame for whatever happens to us, we lessen the sense of responsibility to our destiny. More importantly, it is cowardly. A real man is willing to take responsibility for all that concerns his destiny and not allow it to rest within the whims and caprices of other men. NB: A.
