WINSTED- MARINO - Dorothy Varley Marino, 85, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of Concetto Marino for 61 years. Born in Sheffield, England, February 15, 1929 to John and Maryellen (Norton) Varley. Dorothy was the youngest of 13 and known affectionately by her siblings as Doll. She completed her secondary education with honors and was made assistant to the Dean. In 1948 after enduring the hardship of WWII and the bombing of Sheffield, she embarked on the Queen Mary for a new life in America. Once here, she was employed at the Gilbert Clockshop and later SNET. Dorothy later met and married Concetto Marino and started a family. Together, they owned and operated Concetto & Jerrys Restaurant for 45 years. She was a wonderful cook and was best known for her clam chowder. Dorothy was a former member of both the Italian American Womans Club and the British Allsorts. She lived her life by example. She enjoyed the simplicities of knitting, reading, baking and conversation over a cup of afternoon tea. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Joseph of Southington, Rosanne (Thomas) Hanecak of Norfolk, David and his fiance, Tracy of Derby, Anthony of Winsted, Concetto (Ellen) of Winsted and Victoria (Gilbert) MacConnell of Winsted; 5 grandchildren, Maryellen, Concetto(CJ), Catherine, Nicholas and Julia; beloved brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews locally and in England. She was predeceased by her siblings including Ruth Silverio. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 18, at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 4-7 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will he held on Wednesday, March 19th at St. Josephs Church, Winsted at 11 AM. Burial will be held in the Spring.
