WINTER SNOW TRAILS UPDATE *Detroit Lakes The Winter Wonderland Snowmobile Trails running through the Detroit Lakes vicinity are groomed following the 4-7 inch snowfall. The trail base measures roughly 4-6 inches, and conditions range from good to excellent. Over 250 miles of trails traverse the area, offering views of rolling prairie to secluded woodlands filled with wildlife. And cross country skiers are also enjoying excellent conditions on trails running throughout the area. Most of these trails have a freshly groomed 6-7 inch packed powder surface. *Central Region Fergus Falls/Otter Tail County The Otter Country Trail Associations 273 miles of snowmobile trails should be regroomed by this weekend. The trails have a 2-4 inch base, with 10-12 inches of snow covering the ground. Conditions are mostly good. The Otter Country Trails offer numerous connections to other trail systems in the Otter Tail County vicinity. Nearby, Maplewood State Park offers good conditions for skiing. These trails have a 2-6 inch base. The snowmobile trails are in fair to good condition. *Ashby/Alexandria/Osakis The Central Lakes State Trail is a 55 mile, paved trail that runs through 3 counties and 10 communities. The trail begins in the city of Fergus Falls, and ends in the city of Osakis. The section of trail running from Ashby to Osakis is groomed and in good condition, with a 4-6 inch base. Local snow depth is 9-12 inches following 4-5 inches of new snowfall. The ski trails at Lake Carlos State Park are groomed and in good condition. The trail base measures 4 inches overall. The ski trails will be regroomed this Friday, Jan. 24. The snowmobile trails have a 5 inch base, and are reported to be in very good condition. The ground is covered in 16 inches of snow. Snowshoe rental is available within the park.
