WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR TUESDAY, JANUARY 21, 2014 (EAST ORANGE)- Due to the heavy snow and extreme cold temperatures today, the City of East Orange makes the following announcements. City employees are advised that City Hall and all City offices will have a delayed opening at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, January 22nd. For further updates, City employees may call the automated hotline at 973-266-5531. The City Council meeting scheduled for this evening has been cancelled. Any items submitted for consideration this evening will be taken up for consideration at the next scheduled Council meeting on Monday, January 27th. The Municipal Court will be closing at 2 p.m. today and reopen at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Additionally, the following resources are available to residents. Tenants without heat or hot water are reminded to call the City’s HEAT HOTLINE at 973-266-5320. The hotline is monitored 24 hours a day. The East Orange Senior Center located at 90 Halsted St. will be open today as a warming and comfort center for residents during their normal business hours. For assistance after normal hours, residents may contact the HEAT HOTLINE. Garbage and recycling collection will continue as scheduled on Wednesday. Snow emergency parking rules will be in effect in the City of East Orange from 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 21st until noon Wednesday, January 22nd. Residents are reminded that parking will be prohibited on snow emergency streets, which are listed below. Abandoned and/or illegally parked vehicles will be towed. Any cars remaining within these emergency routes may be ticketed and towed. Residents are kindly asked to clear snow from areas around fire hydrants in front of their homes.
