WINTRY SHOWERS IN NORTH: Cloud and outbreaks of patchy rain moving south-eastwards across England this morning will clear the far southeast by this afternoon and then for much of Britain and Ireland it will be a bright and breezy day with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered blustery showers. The showers will be heaviest and most frequent towards the north and west of Scotland and Ireland, and they will turn increasingly wintry in the north with significant snowfall expected over the Scottish mountains. Top temperatures this morning of 10°C to 12°C in the south and southwest, but falling away this afternoon with maximums more generally of 5°C to 8°C, feeling colder in the fresh west/northwest winds.
