WISDOM CALLS, ARE YOU LISTENING? Wisdom teaches me that there are IMPORTANT, URGENT AND RELEVANT things to do at any given time 1. Not everything urgent is important: This means that just because you find anything urgent does not necessarily mean it is important Good example is the soccer match you are in a hurry to go and watch. Though it is urgent, your life does not depend on it and your safety and the safety of others cannot be compromised over it; so you drive with caution and are happy to be alive though you missed either a portion of it or the entire game for that matter. YET MANY IMPORTANT LIVES ARE LOST ON OUR ROADS AS PEOPLE HURRY FOR AN URGENT YET NOT IMPORTANT SOCCER GAME 2. Not everything important is urgent: There are important yet not urgent matters to attend to or deal with. Good example is the matter of marriage; though important it is not as urgent to extent that you rush into it without preparation, means and character. Marriage can wait until such time that more urgent matters such as good education (you will be surprised that though education is not a prerequisite to marriage yet it nonetheless makes a major difference to go into marriage educated), an established career, financial means, spiritual and emotional maturity have been attended to 3. Not everything urgent or important is relevant for the moment as it matters what we address, why we address it and when we do so. There are very important and urgent matters that for the moment are not relevant to deal with Good example is food. It is important that I eat as my physiological survival depends on it and it could be urgent that I eat now as I am extremely hungry but by virtue of being trapped in an underground shaft and needing rescue, it may not be relevant to bring the issue of food up for discussion as the rescuers dig their way to my location because they have to get to where I am before the matter of eating can be feasible This approach to life has greatly influenced what I preach and address at any given time and I greatly grieve as I see a lot of pulpit time spent on subjects that in line with the Lords PRIORITIES (URGENCY), COMMISSION (RELEVANCE) AND WILL/PURPOSE (IMPORTANCE), are completely unnecessary What informs how important, urgent or relevant anything we address is, IS THE LORD BY HIS HOLY SPIRIT, NOT THE PRESSURES, DEMANDS AND AGENDA OF THE WORLD 1. There are things that are presently very important to man but not to God - these have to be de-prioritized 2. There are matters that are urgent to man but completely irrelevant to address now - these should be shelved 3. There are matters important and urgent to the rest of the world but completely irrelevant to people The Lord has sent you to, especially for the moment - these should be ignored THAT IS THE REASON WE CANNOT JUST PREACH IT, TEACH IT AND PROPHESY IT JUST BECAUSE EVERYBODY ELSE IS - WE HAVE TO DO SO SOLELY ON THE BASIS AND GROUND THAT THE LORD BY HIS HOLY SPIRIT WANTS IT ADDRESSED NOW, TO A PARTICULAR PEOPLE AND IN THIS PLACE This takes boldness, guts and courage as MOST OF WHAT GOD WANTS SAID NOW, PEOPLE HATE TO HEAR, PEOPLE FIND IRRELEVANT AND NOT THAT URGENT The same principles apply to how we live generally - BEFORE YOU DO IT, BEFORE YOU ADDRESS IT AND BEFORE YOU TOUCH IT, STOP AND ASK: AT THIS MOMENT IN MY LIFE, IS THIS IMPORTANT, IS IT URGENT AND RELEVANT OR CAN IT BE DELAYED, POSTPONED, SHELVED OR COMPLETELY TAKEN OFF MY LIST AS THERE ARE MORE RELEVANT AND IMPORTANT THINGS TO ATTEND TO NOW? THIS IS WHAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE WISE AND THE FOOLISH, BETWEEN THE EFFECTIVE AND THE MEDIOCRE AND BETWEEN THE FRUITFUL AND THE BARREN Todays Meditation Proverbs 3 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. 8 It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones. And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. 16 Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches and honor. 17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who retain her. 19 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens; 20 By His knowledge the depths were broken up, And clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, let them not depart from your eyes— Keep sound wisdom and discretion; 22 So they will be life to your soul And grace to your neck. 23 Then you will walk safely in your way, And your foot will not stumble. 24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. Proverbs 14 12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. Psalm 37 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall , he shall not be utterly cast down : for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand. 25 I have been young, and now am old ; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken , nor his seed begging bread.26 He is ever merciful , and lendeth ; and his seed is blessed. 27 Depart from evil, and do good;and dwell for evermore. 28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off . 29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever. 30 The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment. 31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide . 32 The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. 33 The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged .
