WITH THE WEBSITE BEING DOWN AT THE MOMENT........ This is the final report from the 2013-2014 competitive season. The Dolphins swimmers and coaching staff will be practising reduced sessions during August to give their bodies and minds time to rest before 2014 -2015 season gets underway in September. 2014 NATIONAL MASTERS 3km Open Water Championships Nichola Smith of the Daventry Dolphins Aqua squad competed at the 3km National Masters Open water Championships at Rother Valley, Sheffield at the weekend. Competing in the 30-34 years age group she won her event in a time of 42 minutes. 41.70 seconds. Conditions were overcast with the water temperature 20 degrees but because of the south westerly wind blowing, it felt colder with the wind also making the conditions very choppy. Most mass swim starts are made from in the water and this was the first time Nichola had experienced diving into open water from a pontoon. She coped with the changeable conditions very well and at the first 1km she was lying in 2nd place but after 1.5km she had caught up and overtaken her nearest rival Selena Burgess who is a former GB representative swimmer and finished well ahead of Burgess who recorded a time of 44 minutes 03.60 seconds. Nichola was the 8th placed female overall out of 31 competitors which included several Team GB swimmers who were using the event as a practice event for the forthcoming European Championships in Berlin. Proudly wearing her Gold medal, she is pictured below with Cassie Patten former 10km marathon swimmer and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games bronze medallist and her fellow medallists. 2014 NATIONAL AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS Joseph Iacovides aged 14yrs competed at the ASA National Age Group Swimming Championships at Pond Forge, Sheffield. This was a 750m swim and was ideal for novice swimmers to facilitate their open water practices. It was held under the British Triathlon Federation rules (not the Amateur Swimming Association rules) and had the temperature been below 22 degrees, swimmers could have worn wetsuits which actually makes the swimmers more buoyant in the water. The hardy Dolphins have been swimming outdoors this season and only wear their normal swimwear.
