WITH THREE HEADED GOALS FROM DEAD BALLS Piqué, the set-piece - TopicsExpress

WITH THREE HEADED GOALS FROM DEAD BALLS Piqué, the set-piece beast One of Barcelonas biggest failings in recent years has been their frailty from set pieces, both in defence and in attack. The Azulgranas have tended to concede by the bucketload from dead balls, while failing to capitalise on their own free-kicks and corners. Gerard Piqué is the exception to this rule and indeed is the clubs only player to have headed home from a free-kick or corner delivery this term. Against Córdoba Piqué bagged his third such effort of the season, getting a run on the defenders to send a crashing header into the net from Xavis inswinging free-kick. The ex-Manchester United man opened his account for the campaign in very similar circumstances during the Champions League clash at home to APOEL Nicosia. He also converted with his head during the derby against Espanyol, this time from a corner, in the process breaking a run of almost 130 Barça corners that hadnt led to anything. The Catalan giants coach, Luis Enrique, spoke about the subject after the Córdoba match, stating, We have good set-piece takers in the squad, though we dont have as many players who are good at getting on the end of deliveries. Still, dead balls are another aspect of the game that we have to utilise.
