WITNESS APPEAL: Were appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man died after falling from an M6 motorway bridge last night, Saturday 25th January, before being hit by a vehicle that failed to stop. The incident took place around 11.30pm just past junction 28 on the M6 south at Leyland. A man has been stood the wrong side of the footbridge when he has fallen into the carriageway. Four vehicles have swerved to avoid him but a fifth vehicle has collided with the man as he lay in lane one of the carriageway. The driver failed to stop or report the incident. Enquiries are currently underway to establish the identity of the man who has sadly died. He is believed to be aged in his early twenties. Sergeant Dave Hogarth from the Force Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident in which a young man has lost his life and we are doing all we can to identify his next of kin and establish the circumstances of exactly what happened. “The vehicle that collided with man is described as a dark coloured saloon and I would appeal directly to the driver of that car, or anybody that witnessed this collision to contact Lancashire Police on 101.” The southbound carriageway was closed for six hours between junctions 27 and 28 for a scene investigation to be carried out.
