WLC: From Christmas Day to Sunday 28 December, West Lothian - TopicsExpress

WLC: From Christmas Day to Sunday 28 December, West Lothian Council gritters have spread approximately 480 tonnes of salt to combat the effects of cold weather. Conditions have been extremely cold and dry which has resulted in the formation of hoar frost across the region. Over the Festive holiday period, gritting has been restricted to repeated treatment of the primary routes only, with other classified routes being treated this morning. Primary footway routes were not treated during this holiday period, in line with council policy of footways only being treated on a reactive basis where widespread snow or ice conditions are evident. A priority system is in place to ensure that the treatment is targeted to areas of greatest need first. Where possible, we aim to grit major roads and important bus routes prior to the formation of ice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week when necessary. Once these major roads have been treated, we treat secondary routes on a reactive basis only, such as those in housing estates and rural areas, during normal working hours from Monday to Friday.
