WLW radio in 1933, went to an unprecedented 500,000 watts and this 747 foot tower was built to transmit the signal. While only 50,000 watts today, WLW still uses this structure, which rests on a single ceramic insulator, as the whole tower radiates the signal. The middle of the tower was made wider (35 square) for additional structural strength. It has been in use since 1933 and supports a total stress load of 450 tons, including 135 tons of structure steel (900,000 lbs)! https://youtube/watch?v=CbHjcwIoTiY
