WON WEATHER OBSERVER, RHEIN, SK: UPDATE - Good afternoon all! At 1200 my wife and I set up and placed our submersible sump pump into our septic tank because our regular sump pump could not keep up with the water flowing into our septic tank and consequently into our basement; between the two pumps, we should be able to manage the water in the septic tank and give our regular sump pump a chance to overcome the water seepage. Checked the rain gauge at 1315 and there was another .47 of an inch of rain in the gauge since 0700 this morning. That means that since 1800 last night, we have had a total of 3.23 inches of rain in 17 and a quarter hours. Locations south and east of us, including Yorkton, Saltcoats, Langenburg and Esterhazy have had considerably more rain that we did at 0700, in come cases approaching between 5 and 6 inches since yesterday. We took a drive earlier in the day to see how conditions were in our locale and saw flooded fields and ditches, and in one spot water running over our Highway 309 about 5 and quarter miles west of our village. In all the years that we have lived in Rhein (30 years), never has water run over the highway. Last year, in July, Rhein had its first tornado and this year our highway has water running over it - what will Mother Nature bring us in the future?
