WONDERFUL video. Even if painting isnt your thing, its a highly inspiring 15 minute film, narrated by Walt Disney. He talks about the way different artists come together to collaborate their different styles into one project. Something that is VERY important to know how to do if you are ever to work as part of a team. My favorite quote in here is when he compares the artists to musicians. Im paraphrasing here, but basically he says fantastic musicians who are wonderful soloists, also know how to work with other musicians as part of a larger orchestra. Anyone who has ever played in a band or orchestra, knows that there is a time and place to stand out with your own style, and it is important to know how to blend your sound with those around you. Thats why it is just so important to study many different styles and methods of creating art; as well as perfecting your own personal approach. Being able to emulate other styles is a very desirable skill. This week, try doing some sketch studies of an artist you admire. Notice the things that make their art different from other art out there. If you have time, maybe compare two artists you admire against each other. Pay close attention to the little details that make their styles unique, and learn how to use those styles in your own drawings.
