WONDROUS THINGS I love this verse the way it is written in the Septuagint: Unveil thou mine eyes, and I shall perceive wondrous things of thy law. Psa. 119:18. The Bibles center-point is considered Psalm 119. It happens to also be the longest chapter, numerically, than any other chapter in the Bible. David is speaking, on and on, about the Commandments of God. There is a reason for this. However, the phrase, Unveil...my eyes...shall perceive wondrous things of Thy Law is so profound and should be the prayer of many today whose eyes are veiled and theyre not able to see the wondrous things regarding the Commandments! You will hear justification of such, for example: (1) The Commandments were done away at the cross, or (2) The Commandments were given to the Jews, or (3) Jesus gave us new commandments, and my personal favorite, (4) Thats part of the Old Covenant! What many fail to realize the Old and New Covenant were based on the same thing: The 10 Commandments! No wonder those who hold such a view will NEVER be able to see the wondrous things of the Law. For one, here is David, one who understand the Law yet pleading with God to unveil, to uncover, what is keeping him for realizing the totality of what he thinks he has only received a part. And, it is true, because it wasnt until several months ago, through the words of a friend, Ive come to realize the Commandments, the TEN are an index upon which all are founded. Ive always known all things are related, but the word index, since Im a writer, holds special meaning. There are 21 descriptions/usages for the word, index, however, I like this 4th one: something that directs attention to some fact, condition, etc.; a guiding principle. This covers the whole purpose of the 10 Commandments. Its a FACT it exists for today. Its a FACT conditions are built upon them, and it is a FACT it is to be used as a principle for established guidelines. Now, what could possibly be negative about this? And when we have come to the conclusion, which by the way, Solomon so stated and he being the wisest man who ever lived, Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Eccl. 12:13. Notice he didnt say the duty of Jews! So, it would seem, to me, it would be wise to keep them and it would be only possible to see wondrous things because of them, and unwise to not do so and you will continue to be blind. Think about it, no guidance would indicate youre moving along blindly. Those four reasons for NOT keeping them are indicative of that fact! You ARE blind and WILL NEVER be able to appreciate them and receive the blessing which comes as a result for doing so. Time, my Friends, to receive wondrous things, but first, you have to ask God to remove the veil which is keeping you from seeing the truth and He will. Trust me.
