WONKY TAIL (Chapter 6) Polo learned that all of the cat and dogs at the shelter were unwanted just like him. After a while Polo came to trust and love his caretakers. They were kind to him. The visitors that came to see the unwanted pets were curious as to what happened to his tail. His caretakers always answered “he was born that way.” After a week he was put into a plastic box and taken for a ride. When he came back his nether region was hairless and different. Polo soon forgot about it and accepted his fate. Many cats and kittens came and went but alas Polo was still waiting for his forever home. Was it because of his “wonky tail” or perhaps because he was a black cat. Whatever it was it made him very sad. Polo was allowed outside during the day to play together with the other cats and kittens. Although they were in a huge cage, it was not like the freedom he once had. One day Polo decided not to wait on his caregiver to bring him inside for the day and bolted out the door. He knew where to go and went inside the shelter to his kennel. The next day he did the same thing but made a detour to check out the rest of the building. There were many dogs in the lobby and the puppy room. Some were barking at him and some were wagging their tails. Polo felt safe because they were in metal crates. As the weeks went by the staff trusted Polo to come and go on his own. His kennel was used for another unwanted kitty to sleep in. This made Polo very happy.
