WOODY ALLENS BLUE JASMINE - This Friday (31st January) PRESTEIGNE FILM SOCIETY ANNUAL FUNDRAISER Unwillingly decamped to her sister Ginger’s messy San Francisco apartment from her hitherto glitzy Manhattan lifestyle, Jasmine (Cate Blanchett on stellar form), is a now penniless victim of her recently incarcerated financier husband Hal’s (Alec Baldwin) Bernie Madoff-style scams. Working-class Ginger, played with loud-mouthed zeal by Sally Hawkins, has relationship problems of her own and the two women make uneasy accommodation of each others’ trials and tribulations, Jasmine’s told mainly in flashback. After a few so-so indulgences, this is Woody Allen returning to brilliant form with every hilarious exchange bearing a sting in its tail. A licensed bar and snacks will be available on the night.
