WORD ALIVE … Bringing the relevance of God’s Word to our everyday life. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- STUDY TO SHOW YOURSELF APPROVED (Vol 2; No 215) “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” - 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV The word of God can only be spiritually discerned (1Corinthians 2:14). The Bible is a dead letter except if interpreted by the Holy Spirit. The word of God can never be vital and powerful in us except by the Spirit. Read the Scriptures prayerfully. Depend on the Holy Spirit to teach and reveal the truth therein. The Bible is not to be learned and mastered like a textbook of science or philosophy. Its truth is revealed to faith. Prayer (as the Spirit guides you) is the key that unlocks its precious treasures. Charles Hudson Spurgeon once said, A Christian on his knees sees more than a philosopher on his tip-toes. It is not by great brainpower that the word of God is understood, but by prayerful meditation. As you read there will be much more you may not understand at first, but light and understanding will come with consistent reading and diligent study. It was said of Ezra, that he prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach it. Take note of the sequence: He sought to learn, to do, and to teach. For you to be an instrument, through which others will be taught, you have to learn first – and learning on a daily basis. Ezra applied God’s word to himself before preaching it to others (Ezra 9:13-15). His move received an unprecedented response from his people. Ezra was a student of the scripture. Let us follow his example. There is power in the word of God. It regenerates and transforms life. It can change an infidel to a believer and a sinner to a saint. It was this same word that Ezra read to the people just from a simple scroll. Yet the word he read showed its power in the way it affected those who heard him, resulting to change in behaviour, renewed commitments and dedications (Nehemiah 8:1-9). You too can be a student of the Bible. “Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth,” (2 Timothy 2:15 AMP).
