WORD FOR THE WEEK: sepia (noun and adj.) Pronunciation: see-pee-uh a brown pigment, often used to refer to a style of drawing or photography (as an adjective: of a reddish-brown color) The Greek word sepia meant cuttlefish. That may seem a long way off from todays use, which often describes the style of old-fashioned, monochrome photos. However, the cuttlefish name was also applied to the color of ink it would emit as a defense. If only those ancient fish knew their inky name would go on to describe a popular fad of modern photography.
