WORD Today 01/21/15 Heb 7:1-3, 15-17 Mk 3:1-6 The 1st Reading tells us that Jesus is our High Priest. A priest is one who offers sacrifices & prayers to God in behalf of man to bring them together. Its what ancient priests did, its what Jesus did, its what priests do at Mass. And its the duty of every parent-priest of the domestic church, the family. In the Gospel, Jesus tells the Pharisees that the Sabbath Day of Rest is not about complying with the rule to be at complete rest, to do nothing at all, but rather glorifying God by doing good to others. Jesus is reminding us family priests that in bringing our children to God, not to stop at telling our children, Do not drink & Do not dress like that but rather proceed and show to them how to give drink to the thirsty and give dress to the naked. And above all to love the family faithfully as Jesus loves the church - all the way to sacrificial death.
