WORD Today 01/22/15 Heb 7:25--8:6 Mk 3:7-12 All who had diseases pressed upon Him to touch Him. (Gospel) For our physical, emotional or financial illness, we can go to Jesus and touch Him in the Eucharist. That is good, He is our High Priest able for all time to save those who draw near to God through Him. (1st Reading) But its useless to have Him fix only the visible symptom of our problem while refusing to have Him address the root cause. He has to heal us whole - body, mind and spirit. A medical doctor needs to ask us so many things and makes us undergo lab tests. Jesus too needs us to tell Him and admit everything in Confession, to test our willingness to cooperate. We surrender to Him our unclean spirits and declare, Here am I, Lord. I come to do your will. (Resp. Psalm) If we allow Jesus to change our life in ways we cannot anticipate or dictate, we can be sure the result will be first rate.
