WORD Today 09/20/13 1Tm 6:2-12 Lk 8:1-3 In the Gospel, Jesus is preaching from town to town. Travelling with Him are men & women of different social status & levels of morality: Magdalene the immoral woman and Joanna the respectable wife of a public official; apostles Peter the simple fisherman and Matthew the rich tax collector; Judas the shady character and Bartholomew the honest & pious man. They represent typical members of the church of Christ, very diverse people desiring the company of Jesus. In the 1st Reading, Paul the church builder reminds us that travelling with Jesus does not mean wealth & comfort. In fact Paul says, "Love of money is the root of all evils. Through this craving, many have wandered away from the faith and pierced their hearts with many sorrows." This was proven in Judas & it can happen to us. May we always be reminded that our reward for travelling with Jesus is Jesus Himself.
