WORD Today 09/21/14 Is 55:6-9 Phil 1:20-24, 27 Mt 20:1-16 In the Gospel parable, Jesus likens God to a landowner who pays the same wage to all workers, whether they started 8 AM, noon or 5 PM. It troubles our sense of justice where salary depends on performance. Its so UNFAIR that godless people prosper while we who faithfully serve suffer. But God reminds us that For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. (1st Reading) Jesus parable reminds us that His love is so great that He invites & accepts sinners right up to quitting time. It should also remind us that in times when WE are unfaithful and sinning, He still loves us as much as He loved St. Francis or Mother Teresa who served & suffered much more than us. Should I complain? Or should I fall on my knees in humble gratitude? O Lord Jesus, thank you for being unfair!
