WORD Today 11/13/14 Phlm 1:7-20 Lk 17:20-25 Some people asked Jesus when the Kingdom of God will come. They were thinking of a physical kingdom with a mighty king and army to crush their enemies. Jesus told them it is not like that. The First Reading demonstrates what and when is the Kingdom of God. St. Paul writes Philemon to forgive and take back his servant Onesimus who had stolen from him and ran away. But Paul attests that Onesimus had changed his life and served him well in spreading the Gospel... At times we are Onesimus, a sinner granted the gift of repentance and return to the love of God. At other times we are Philemon, granted the privilege to imitate Jesus and forgive those who have hurt us. And at all times we are to be saints like Paul, promoters of peace, not igniters of fire. The Kingdom of God is not a castle in the sky - it is in our heart. Where there is love, there is where God reigns.
