WORDS OF ADVICE for those looking to hire a photographer for outdoor portraits: If the photographer schedules your session for the middle of the day 11am-3pm, DONT HIRE THAT PERSON!!! The best time for capturing outdoor portraits is when the light from the sun isnt overhead at 12 0clock position. The only acceptable times of the day for shooting outdoors on a sunny day are early morning (sunrise-10am*) or late evening 5pm-sunset*) Adjusted for DST*. Those are the times of the day that are referred to as The Golden Hours, because the light from the sun will illuminate your subject from the side, instead of directly overhead. Direct overhead lighting from the sun causes harsh shadows, washes out color, and makes the ground very bright (even more bright than the subject, which would make the ground a distraction from the subject). During the golden hours, not only is the light soft, but the light will have a soft golden glow (hence the name golden hours) that will create a flattering light. So if a photographer with a professional camera offers to take your photos during midday, reject the offer, because that person hasnt been properly trained on lighting, and your photos will look HORRIBLE and unappealing.
