WORKING RIGHT WITH YOUR PASTOR By Pastor William Boachie-Ansah Prelude Beloved in Christ, grace, peace and mercy of the Lord Jesus be with you all. By the grace of God, a new District was created out of my District. It was inaugurated yesterday at Teacher Mante. This is the message the Lord laid on my heart to preach. You may learn a lot from it. Don’t forget to share with your friends.. TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 5:12-14 NIV Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. [13] Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. [14] And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Introduction Paul was teaching the Thessalonian church how they were to relate to each other in Christ. In this passage, he made effort to highlight on the need on the part of the congregation to live right with the church workers, who in our context, are referred to as ministers or pastors. The church must accept the Minister first as God’s gift not only to the Church but the whole community in which he will be working. It must however be noted that a gift becomes a gift only when the one to whom it is being given, accepts it. Jesus, for instance, could not perform any miracle in Nazareth simply because the people did not receive him as the accredited Son of God. If you want to work effectively with the Pastor take note of the following timeless principles which could be deduced from the text. PRINCIPLE OF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT and ACCEPTANCE He is the right person for the moment. Avoid finding faults with him and/or his ministry. ...gye no tom.... PRINCIPLE OF ACCOMMODATION Have a big heart for him and his vision. He may not touch on your immediate needs. He may not be able to fulfil your all expectations. .....Nya abotare ma no .... PRINCIPLE OF ASSIMILATION Treat him and his family as one of you. Avoid behind the scenes treatment... He must be in the known about all that happens in the District. He should be treated in a good way to make him feel as being part and parcel of both the church and the community .....mma no nnyɛ ɔhɔho mo mu.... PRINCIPLE OF APPRECIATION Be thankful to God for his life and ministry. Thank him for everything he will do, especially when God used him to bless your heart. Shower him with gifts and feed him with ‘balanced diet’. ...Sua sɛ wobekamfo no... PRINCIPLE OF ACCOUNTABILITY Leadership should constantly be reminded that they are to submit reports and/or proceeds about every activity on time. In Ministry, feedback is very important. Avoid excuses and do the right thing at the right time. ..Bu w’adwuma ho nkonta pa ne bere mu.. PRINCIPLE OF ACCELERATION Help him to move the church forward. The Church expects good report from, and about every minister who is deployed into ministry. There must be both spiritual and physical evidence of progress and advancement in the church. Every effort should therefore be made in this regard. Every member should work hard in order to avoid being idle, .....ma kwan na ɔmfa asɔre no ntu mmirika ... Conclusion Behind every successful minister is a hard working leadership team who deligently follow church policy and motivate themselves. May The Lord be with you.
