WORKOUT TIP: Have you ever thought you might be over-training? Personally I think ‘overtraining’ is a term that’s way too overused. People use it as an excuse to work less, they convince themselves that if they work a particular body part too much or too often, they will actually slow down their progress. Studies have shown that the more you work, the more development you get, simple. There’s no point at which you start going backwards. Having said that, it is possible to overwork your body in a general sense, where is starts showing signs of fatigue and not keeping up with the work demands. How can you tell if this is happening to you? Well, the common signs of over-training are: tiredness, difficulty sleeping, persistent injuries, headaches, recurring illness, and moodiness. Sometimes it hard to judge whether or not these symptoms apply to you, so theres another way to check. Over-training releases adrenaline into your bloodstream to help your body cope with the excessive stress. This causes you to lose your appetite, and causes your heart rate to increase. So if you suspect youre suffering from some of the symptoms above, check your resting heart rate every morning at the same time. If its steady each day, theres no problem. If theres an increase from one day to the next however, you could be over-training and in need of a rest! – Fabian.
