WORKOUT TIP: There’s nothing worse than working hard in the gym day in and day out, and not seeing any improvements in your body. Sometimes even when we do our best to vary our exercises, rep ranges, etc., we tend to hit a plateau where no matter what we do, we just seem stuck. This is often a good time to do a deload. A deload is where you back off on your resistance levels to about 2/3 to 3/4 of what they currently are, for a period of about 2 weeks or so. Then you ease back up to your maximum levels again, and you should find that you surpass previous levels and start to see improvements again. The mechanism in your body that makes this work is very complex, but its very similar to when you work hard to perfect a skill and reach a point where the harder you try, the more frustrated you get. So you leave it for a period and when you come back youre surprised by the sudden improvement. With workouts its not a good idea to stop altogether however because that would signal your muscles to start to atrophy (waste away). By just deloading instead you will be using enough resistance to maintain your muscle mass while still giving your nervous system a chance to recharge. - Fabian.
