WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT: Translation or Is It? by Ms. Janis Cole, a dynamic and wonderful presenter, CDI, ASL trainer, ASL Literacy trainer, Actress, well-known consultant and performer. Workshop for Deaf Interpreters, Deaf Persons, ASL Interpreters, Educational interpreters, Student interpreters, Teachers of ASL September 21, 2013, Saturday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Union County College Cranford Campus 1033 Springfield Ave. Cranford, NJ (Signs on location of room will be posted) This workshop is designed for interpreters who would like to develop and enhance their ASL translation skills. It will be provided in a highly interactive environment in which participants will have the opportunity to explore ways to convey a bilingual approach and translations techniques form to create source language into the target language. The analysis steps will include mapping, schema and identifying key linguistic features for meaning and message. The activity content will include lecture, demonstrations, small group practices, and hand-on text translations. Also, they will also evaluate other groups’ translations using as a checklist that covers skill areas such as prosody, grammar, depiction, depth of processing and more. .05 RID CEUs Workshop conducted in ASL only. No interpreters provided. Registration information on back of sheet BIOGRAPHY AND CREDENTIALS Janis Cole, with her 30 plus years of professional experience, has been and still is an educator, instructor, ASL trainer, workshop presenter, consultant, facilitator, interpreter, community advocate, Mistress of Ceremonies, creative arts consultant, actress, director and producer. Janis taught for 19 years in the ASL/Deaf Studies department and was selected to receive the Golden Key Award from Boston University in 2001. She was a faculty member with the ASL/Deaf Studies department at Gallaudet University for four years and currently she is an adjunct instructor at Gallaudet University.
