This workshop follows the June 13, 2013, Sacramento “kick-off meeting” for the 2013 Update and is intended to be a regional forum to solicit input for the 2013 Update. Other regional forums are being held in the San Francisco Bay Area and the San Joaquin Valley. The meeting will be held at the following time and place: Date: Wednesday, June 26, 2013 Time: 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Place: South Coast Air Quality Management District Office Auditorium 21865 Copley Drive Diamond Bar, California 91765 At the workshop, ARB, SCAQMD, and SCAG will provide background on AB 32 and the 2008 AB 32 Scoping Plan; discuss California’s vision for the 2013 Update; discuss the integration of State, local, and regional policies, planning tools, and programs developed and used to assist California in transitioning to achieve its post-2020 goals and adapting to climate change impacts; and additional preliminary concepts for updating the Scoping Plan. Staff will present a regional focus on air quality, local issues, concerns, and priorities for the next five years. The Scoping Plan update focuses on six major sectors where the challenges and rewards of successful future climate action are most compelling: 1) transportation and fuels (including infrastructure and land use); 2) energy generation (including transmission infrastructure and efficiency); 3) waste; 4) water; 5) natural lands; and 6) agriculture. Each of these sectors has cross-cutting themes, integrating our strategic objectives for the health and prosperity of California with the goal of carbon pollution reduction. Staff will provide a brief overview of each sector and summarize some of the major obstacles that we face as we move towards our long-range goals.
