WORLD CUP FINALS GOLDEN BALL AWARD - PREVIOUS WINNERS: The Golden Ball award is presented to the best player at each FIFA World Cup finals, with a shortlist drawn up by the FIFA technical committee and the winner voted for by representatives of the media. Those who finish as runners-up in the vote receive the Silver Ball and Bronze Ball awards as the second and third most outstanding players in the tournament respectively. 1978 - Mario Kempes 1982 - Paolo Rossi 1986 - Diego Maradona 1990 - Salvatore Schillachi 1994 - Romario 1998 - Ronaldo 2002 - Oliver Kahn 2006 - Zinedine Zidane 2010 - Diego Forlan 2014 - Lionel Messi With exception to 1978 (Mario Kempes), 1982 (Paolo Rossi) and 1986 (Diego Maradona) and 1994 (Romario) all of the other World Cup Golden Ball awards have been won by players whom their team DID NOT win the World Cup tournament such was the case in 1990 (Salvatore Schillachi), 1998 (Ronaldo), 2002 (Oliver Kahn), 2006 (Zinedine Zidane), 2010 (Diego Forlan) & 2014 (Lionel Messi). This is not the first time that a player has won the World Cup Golden Ball Award without winning the World Cup. ACTUALLY THIS IS THE 6TH TIME THAT THE AWARD HAS GONE TO A PLAYER THAT DID NOT WIN THE WORLD CUP! Congratulations to MAESTRO MESSI well deserved! Even though, I am a CR7 fan. But, one has to be realistically. He is the best footballer in the planet. NO IFS OR BUTS. Yuka Barros; Hernani Modesto; Jair Carvalho Ribeiro; Vivin Da Luz Brito; Omar Silva Oliveira; Carlos Waldir Fernandes; Karlos Djoy Portista; Rolando Barbosa Vicente; Joao B. Carvalho; Zito Dimima; Flavio Barros Daveiga; Elsy Dasilva
