WORLD TOP 5 BEST SHOT STOPPERS As the old saying goes, goalkeepers can never win you games, but they sure as hell can save them. Surprisingly enough, the statistics show a number of relatively low profile goalkeepers doing a far greater job than their more well known counterparts. Here we take a look at the most consistent custodians in world football right now: 1) Morgan de Sanctis The AS Roma shot stopper tops our list as the most reliable man in goal presently. The 36-year-old has 16 clean sheets out of 24 appearances in the League, with a whopping shut out percentage of 66.7%, the highest in the world football right now. 2) Manuel Neuer Bayern Munichs iconic goalkeeper is synonymous with consistency nowadays. Having played 21 games, he has managed to shut out the opposition 13 times, impressive even though his team hardly every relinquish possession of the football. Oh yes, and it does help that Neuer fancies himself as quite a penalty specialist as well. 3) Vincent Enyeama The Nigerian Vincent Enyeama, plying his trade at LOSC Lille, comes a close third to De Sanctis and Neuer. Enyeama has kept the same number of clean sheets having played only two games more than De Sanctis, and comes in with an impressive 61.5 percent clean sheet rate. 4) Gianluigi Buffon No goalkeeping list can ever quite be complete without the legendary Italians presence, can it. Buffon has been at his best year after year and, with 13 clean sheets in 23 appearances, appears to be doing his bit to guide Juventus to yet another domestic title. 5) Stephane Rufier The 27-year-old Frenchman has been in the form of his life this season, with 13 clean sheets in 26 appearances for Saint-Etienne. A series of fine performances by the keeper and the side in general has catapulted them into fourth place in Ligue 1, and they can only be hoping to stay there if his form continues. So there you have it; No Iker Casillas, Petr Cech, or so many other of the bigger names associated with goalkeeping in our list. Sure, one may say that they are big game players, personalities that inspire confidence amongst their ranks, and nobody is denying that. But it also shows how competitive the game has become, and the sheer number of top drawer men we have between the sticks in the game today.
