WORLD VOID OF WORD DAY 204 - Some days there is just an amazing array of things to write about. Today was one such day. There were golden nuggets in both the Old and New Testament. Decisions, decisions. There was one little jewel from the Book of Amos that won out. If you are unfamiliar with the Book of Amos, it is one of twelve books of the minor prophets. Amos, the author, lived during the reign of Jeroboam II and was written about 750 BC (years Before Christ). One of the major themes of the book was social justice. Throughout the book, Amos delivers a number of God’s judgments that will soon befall the people of Israel. In Amos 8:11-13, we read “The days are coming,’ declares the Sovereign Lord, ‘when I will send a famine through the land – not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it. ‘In that day the lovely young women and strong young men will faint because of thirst’.” When you think about it, what a staggering possibility! A famine of hearing or reading God’s Word. The result is predictable – people will stagger; wander aimlessly; and they will faint. All because they are without God’s Word. Even now there are naysayers who find this notion ridiculous. What is not understood, however, is what it means to completely withdraw from civilization all notion of Truth. God’s Word is absolute, foundational Truth. Without a starting point, without an absolute to draw upon, without validity from which to measure all other things or issues, then truth can be whatever one wants it to be. That, my friends, ultimately leads to anarchy and ruin. It is no wonder then that such a people would be staggering about going nowhere and fainting from thirst. Thirst, mind you, not for water, but for God’s Word. God’s Holy Bible is more than sustenance for a hungry soul. It is an endless five-star buffet. A wellspring of water flooding your heart with God’s endless love. A steady diet of God’s Word will build you up; standing erect and smart. No staggering there. The Holy Bible is a map to a Believer’s final destination - Heaven. No wandering aimlessly there. Instead of fainting, God’s Word will compel to you loudly and joyfully worship and praise your God. There are no dry mouths (or souls) because one verse from the Holy Bible’s pages serves to quench any man’s thirst. Indeed the desire is more, more, more of that crystal clear Truth. So, how are you feeling right about now? Famished? Dry? Are you consuming enough of God’s Word? It is freely available. You need only dig in and dig deep. Now would be a great moment to start. Enjoy your feast! C2013
