WORSHIP SONG for SATURDAY – Today is just like a few hundred other days in which I’m taking part in a formal “goodbye” for a Follower of JESUS. After living for over 6 decades and being involved in a Christian ministry for almost 40 years I can say without a doubt that I am so DONE with death! The endless passing of souls into eternity, every day, every place, every age and every ethnicity. It’s said that every day on our planet over 150,000 people die each day which translates to over 56 million per year. Death never stops the onslaught of causing lives to end and death is no respecter of people. ONE out of every ONE will die and that statistic won’t be different until God changes things. When HE created the first people, HE told them that disobedience would bring death and it did and it’s never stopped since. And no matter how long someone might live, their lives are a mere blink of the eye and according to one writer of the New Testament, life is “like a puff of smoke that appears for a little while then vanishes away!” Most people would like to ignore death, I guess supposing that if they do, it might not come their way. But ignore as you will, you will make the journey someday from this life to the next. Moses, an Old Testament writer said this… “Seventy years are given to us, some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away. Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.” Sobering words but good words to consider for the New Testament further declares that “it is appointed unto people to die once and after this there will be judgment.” I know, most people dont like to talk about death and judgment and to tell you the truth I really dont either. But it is a reality, a part of life and something that the Bible speaks much of. And as a Follower of JESUS and student of the Bible I would be less than honest to talk with others about it. Death came into the world as a result of sin and the Bible tells us that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. The Bible also tells us that the wages of sin is death and that every human being is accountable to God. Nothing good that we do really impresses God and even our good is not acceptable in His sight. Without something miraculous happening our destiny would be eternal separation from God, forever. But He loved us enough to allow His Son to die on a cross and take upon Himself our sins and when we look to Him as our Savior and accept Him as LORD, forgiveness is ours, free and clear. And the best part of the story is that heaven becomes our home....forever! Im done with death and one day death will forever be done. God has created a place where there is no more death and where those that are His will live forever in joy, peace and I believe in incredible adventure. Even though there will probably be many more funerals that I will go to and have a part in, one day my last one will take place and I will enter a world that needs no sun or moon because the LIGHT and GLORY of God will fill it. And from what Ive read there are no cemeteries there either, Praise God!
