WOW! It is now over 40 years since standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona and the Jackson Browne song (with a couple of extra lines from Glen Frey) Take It Easy, launched The Eagles on their way to becoming a international household brand name (much like Al Bran is I guess). Jackson Browne revisits the American village of 9,000 people called Winslow Arizona for this new album ... but more on that shortly. Jackson Browne has released another superb new album Standing in the Breach, a few weeks back. Delivered track by track in his usual heart felt, well disciplined, soft voiced style. Yet, gently, he gets into your head and heart, as a political and social commentator taking you on a journey. From Wall Street, to the homeless and the Unions, as he sings Whose side are you on? Jackson Browne has been quoted, as believing, that the worlds most single, greatest problem is where the have nots starve and beg, while the haves live in opulent disgraceful mansions of wasteful splendour ... As if Kings and Queens. Jackson Browne can (in a lyric sense and vocal style, with carefully crafted songs) pin you up against the wall to make sure that you still have a conscience, without you ever noticing the roughing up youve just had. When he was a child his parents would encourage the unemployed and homeless (what some in those days call Hobos) into their yard and house for a bit of light work in return for food and money. Leaving Winslow on this new album, sees Jackson Browne paying tribute to those people and their unchartered life. Meanwhile, one cant help but think, that as Jackson Browne gets nearer to 70 years old, it also sounds like he maybe looking back down the road of his life and the coincidence of those other days of Take it Easy - standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona. A great song! A great album!
