WOW! Never have seen this Vinny with Gregg Allman and Zac Brown - TopicsExpress

WOW! Never have seen this Vinny with Gregg Allman and Zac Brown performing Midnight Rider - with Kenny Aranoff on drums (told you he plays with everybody!) and Chuck Leavell on keys. Chuck has played keys with the Allman Brothers and Rolling Stones for years and is largely responsible for the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and totally responsible for it being in Macon. People always comment to me about what a great voice that Vince has, and I always say , Yeah he does, have you ever heard him tear up a guitar? Check this out! - Quick Story - while still in college at Auburn some friends and I went to see Bob Dylan at The Fox in Atlanta (it truly sucked - sound set for a stadium not a hall). It was a Sunday night, after the disappointing show we were wanting to hear some more music, but options were few. I suggested we go to Brothers Music Hall, that something might be going on there. We got there and low and behold, Sea Leavell was playing (Chucks jazz band), my friends were not familiar but I had a few of their albums, having been turned on to them by Kofi Burbridge at NC School of the Arts a few years earlier - I was a big fan. We went in and there were maybe 30 people in this hall that held probably 400. They were insanely good! They took a break between sets and I wanted to tell Chuck what a fan I was (had know idea about the ABB or Stones connection at the time) my friends said that security would stop me from going backstage and to not try, but I had a good buzz on and couldnt be talked out of it. I walked to the side stage door with purpose (I was maybe 21-22) and not only did the security not stop me, he stood aside and opened the door! I went down the hall and heard voices in one room, I walked in and was welcomed. Met Chuck and the rest of the band, they were passing one around, I sat on the couch and partook - a few minutes later who walks in? Dylan! I didnt say much, just listened, felt surely that soon someone was gonna turn to me and say Who the hell are you? But no one did. A few minutes later they all got up to go back out for the next set - Dylan probably thought I was a tech or roadie or something, never acknowledged me, in fact if memory serves he just talked to Chuck and left when everyone got up to go back to the stage. I went back to my friends, who were astounded, but dont think they ever believed that Dylan stopped by. I learned some valuable things that night. Walk with purpose and people will step aside, and my respect for musicians is evident and is appreciated (both of these have served me well over the years). Years and years later I was producing the Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards show at The Fox and had the opportunity to tell Chuck that story. He didnt remember, but didnt doubt it either. It was a turning point for me about what I might do with my life - meanwhile if your still reading this - and wondering what I want for Christmas, evidently this tribute show is now available on DVD, would love to see and hear the whole thing. Vinny flat tears up the strat on this cut! Enjoy!
