WOW!!! Waves breaking in front of the Malibu Pier!!!!! Extremely rare. I have been surfing there since 1969. We surfed it consistently for over 20 years, ..... at night. At first when it was waist high waves, high tide and the full moon direct over head We evolved with many hours of practice in all conditions, to as big as it gets, lowest tides----- no moon. Surfed where there with multiple in-and-out tube rides. Surfed it totally alone. Surfed it with bands jamming on he pier all night or a lone sax player on the beach! Was surfing Malibu alone when a High School Prom group showed up partying. Saw fishermen pulling up Hammer Head and Blue sharks, while sitting in the jet black water at night. Usually the wave off the reef and mushes out for awhile when it gets over 15 face+, low tide Surfed here in a pea soup fog during the weekend day and it was scarier and harder to surf than at night- less visibility. So we sat at that place where the set waves backed off so could still catch them. There were many un-ridden waves because the fog was so thick most of the crowd left ! One of the best surfing sessions I have ever had is when I surfed Malibu at 2am no moon, on a -low tide 10+ with waves tomato soup glowing RED TIDE and Grunion Run but that is a story for anther day.............
