WOW just WOW : The Postman who built a Palace made of Pebbles & Stones he found along his daily 18 mile route !!! 1879-1912 : 10,000 days, 93,000 hours, 33 years of ordeals !!!!!!! Ferdinand Cheval began working for the postal service in 1867. One day on his route he tripped over a stone, picked it up and was taken aback by its bizarre shape. From that day forward in 1879 (@ the age of 43) his 33-year quest to build the Ideal Palace began. He started collecting stones of interest in his pocket. Eventually he upgraded to a bag and ultimately a wheel-barrow that he would trudge along his entire route; to the chagrin and confusion of many. Once home, he worked on his Ideal Palace tirelessly at night, often by light of an oil lamp. He spent the first 20 years building the outer walls and eventually began the interior and decorative aspects... & If that wasnt enough at the age of 78, Ferdinand starts the achievement of a new tomb in the enclosure of the village’s cemetery : “The tomb of silence and endless rest” because he was denied burial within his Palace of Dreams .. Taking 8 years to complete he finished at the age of 86 & was buried there in 1924 about a year after its completion !!!!
