WOW now I gotta dry my eyes, this is a video of the base I served at that is now listed in the history books. Two commanding officers I worked with are in the video..One being Realie and the other Shultz he is the one saluting the aircraft at the closing of the base. He is the one that about a half hour after I got to Japan had me pull a guy off tow tractor and finish putting plane in hanger. We were moving planes in hanger during the winter with lots of ice and snow on ground. when front wheels of plane would try to get into door way they would slide. I walked into maintenance control after moving one and he and the chiefs were standing there. Chiefs asked him about moving another inside. He said to ask me cause im the one doing it. when I told them how they were sliding we didnt move it. wasnt gonna chance damaging a billion dollar aircraft. They had me paint the VP-60 squadron emblem on the hanger wall in Japan and yes I signed it. There is a picture of the squadron VP-60 in the video. the tall officer shaking the other guys hand is one of the favorite pilots that I launched and recovered many times. If I remember right i believe he is LT. Flynn . I recieved a award because I parked a plane that came in from Memphis and then went back to defueling a aircraft and the pilot came off the plane and as he was walking between me and the fuel farm he decided to light a cig. I got on radio and alerted Maintenance control and he was met at hanger door and made to put it out. One day they needed a plane towed to other side of base at hanger 1 to have welding done and the wing had to be within inches of hanger wall, yep I was the only aircraft handler they trusted to do it. wow I could go on and on with memories.
