WPC Worlds 2014 This was a dream come true to say the least. Friends, family, and training partners were nothing but supporting for what I believe to be one of the one or two biggest meets of the year, let alone of a life time to compete in. Well, to start out this meet write up my training cycle was fantastic and had little doubt that I would hit all the numbers I hoped and dreamed of every night. The weeks before the meet personal issues became an issue and it is amazing what stress does to the body. It doesnt enjoy eating food or absorbing calories for that matter no matter what or how much you eat. Monday before the meet I drove to Pittsburgh for a two day seminar with my new job which was nice due to the all paid food on the company card. Wednesday I was feeling great and it was time to start the 1200 mile drive. Every young man like myself needs to do a road trip like this to enjoy it/say “Ya, Ive done that before” and then never do it again because driving home from 80 Degree weather into Snow is the worst experience in the world….even if I was still wearing my dead lifting socks from the meet 16 hrs after the meet. Meet Day: Everything was going well and the weights were feeling light and for any lifter to peak out like this is part luck and part experience. Warming up for squat, everything felt very tight. The Gear was cutting off full circulation to my legs and to say the least not fun. On my first squat attempt my knees caved in and I stalled about half way up. Squat attempt 2: Had a miss loaded bar which destroys confidence and ruins the Mojo of that moment. Set back up and decided to pass due to how much time I was in my knee wrap and figured it wasn’t worth wasting any energy on a lift you were not comfortable with. Squat Attempt 3: I got it! It was not easy to come back and get my last squat the depth was close and right on for what I needed. Bench was a tossup. I had a perfect first opener which is not easy to say but I believe it. The second bench was unstable and I ended up dumping a bench on my belly which always looks more painful than it really is. Thank god for great spotters. Bench 3 was very close at an all time pr at 645 which I just missed at the lock out. Deadlift is where I pulled it together a little bit. I pulled a meet and gym pr of 705.5lbs which was good enough for 3rd place in the World Championships. I must thank many people who made this all possible. My close friends of Joe, Mario, and Ben who enjoys calling me BW. My training partners from Duke’s Iron Zoo who wanted for me to do better than I do at times! My Best friend who decided to coach me and talk me through a few panic attacks and who is always willing to watch my training videos to give me feedback from 500 miles away Garret. My mother and father who are super supportive and always been there for me. My mother recorded the entire live feed so she wouldnt miss a second with two separate video cameras and my father who flew down to be by my side and help and do whatever I needed. Wouldnt have gotten through the day without him and keeping my back from cramping up. Lastly, my supportive girlfriend Amanda who lets me go to the gym for hours and understands how much this means to me, always trying to remind me I am human and that being almost 275lbs is large enough haha. Team #EliteFTS for being kind enough to help me even though I am not part of the team. These guys are the real deal, they help any lifter without batting an eye and are the role models we need in this sport. Thank you
