#WW2 THE FIFTH CHRISTMAS Canadian personnel overseas in Europe send a Christmas message to their families in Canada. This is a short documentary about Canadians preparing for and celebrating another Christmas away from their loved ones at home – their FIFTH wartime Christmas away, as in the case of 1st Division fighting a life and death struggle at Ortona Italy at the time this film was made in December 1943. The film is introduced by Lt. Gen. Harry Crerar, who was then the General Officer Commanding 1st Canadian Corps in Italy. It seems from his 80 second speech before the film starts that this was supposed to have been a December Christmas release but events changed things. With footage from the RCAF Film Unit & the RCN Film Unit, the doc was produced by the Canadian Army Film Unit and released by the UK Ministry of Information in January 1944. I’m fairly sure that the woman playing the CWAC at the 4:07 mark is actually Sgt Margaret King of the Canadian Film & Photo Unit. She worked at Merton Park Studios, London. #WW2 #Christmas #CFPU #Crerar #Canada #Italy
