WWE NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS RESULTS... Another PPV is in the books, and while most matches went as I expected, there were a few wrinkles and a surprise worth discussing. in the kickoff tag team turmoil match, the Prime Time Players triumphed, earning the title shot later on in the PPV. This was an expected outcome, as right now PTP represent one of the top two face tag teams in WWE. In our first wrinkle of the evening, Curtis Axel had to defend the IC belt in a bit of a bonus match against Kofi Kingston. Axel was able to retain the belt in what i feel was a match mostly set up to further the HHH power hungry angle. Nice to see Kofi get another shot at the belt, but considering this PPV is dubbed Night of Champions, it probably would have been nice to have the match set up and announced before the PPV, too… In the Divas match, AJ Lee retained, as expected. Nothing against any of the other divas in the match..its just that, for right now, AJ is the hot ticket in the divas division. She’s carrying the strap well, so there wasn’t a reason to change. No issues with this one. For the WHC match, RVD got the win over Alberto Del Rio-however, it was by DQ so the title did not change hands. As I am an admitted RVD fan, I really would have liked a title change here, however I do believe he would have then been cashed in on. Getting to see RVD hit the Van Terminator following the match, to give the crowd something to cheer about, was nice. After that high impact move, I was kind of surprised Sandow didn’t attempt to capitalize. Leads me to believe it’s going to be a while before he cashes in. In another match that made sense but wasn’t announced, The Miz beat Fandango. The big question here for me is, will they just wrap this up or are they going to keep this feud going some more? The interactions they’ve had on recent RAWs makes me think they should keep it going. Punk sure looked like he was going to get his revenge on Heyman, as he disposed of Axel and moved on to exact some revenge on Paul E. But, just as things were getting fun for Punk, Ryback intervened and ruined things. So now, of course, the looming question is, Has Ryback become a Paul Heyman guy? Or was this just a one-night-only insurance policy? Honestly, Ryback is one guy who could tremendously benefit from having a mouthpiece. On the downside, does this mean Punk moves on from Axel and on to another program with Ryback? US champ Dean Ambrose retained against Dolph Ziggler. Hard fought match, but once again the Shield finds a way and retains. Would not object to seeing more between these two, so there may be that to look forward to. Rollins and Reigns retained over the PTP. An expected result again, and as with Ziggler and Ambrose, this is a matchup that would be worth seeing again. And, for the surprise outcome of the night, we have Daniel Bryan proving he was right and coming up big against Orton, giving us a new WWE champion yet again. While I expected Orton to hold onto the belt for more than a month, as I felt it would keep building the heat, I am curious to see how things unfold on RAW. Could we see Bryan and Orton swap the belt a number of times in the coming months? Or, does HHH make note of the “fast” count that resulted in the title change and make a correction to the title picture?
