WWF-Canada and REACH Fundraising Campaign News Release WWF-Canada Sponsors Iqaluit’s New Aquatic Centre and Becomes a REACH Champion November 21, 2013 Iqaluit, Nunavut- WWF-Canada and the REACH Fundraising Committee are pleased to announce WWF-Canada as a Champion Level Sponsor of the new Aquatic Centre. WWF’s commitment of $15,000 to REACH will go towards the development of an arctic marine life themed mural in the Aquatic Centre. The mural will depict art work of arctic marine mammals, birds, invertebrates, and traditional Inuit culture. “WWF-Canada is excited to be part of this educational project. This is an excellent opportunity to show off the diverse and fascinating marine species of Frobisher Bay, and remind people of the benefits of conserving those species,” said Vicki Sahanatien, Senior Officer, Government & Community Relations for WWF-Canada’s Arctic Program. “We are proud to be a sponsor under the REACH Campaign and recognize the benefits that the Aquatic Centre will bring to the community and region.” “We are pleased that WWF-Canada has chosen to support the REACH Campaign as a champion level sponsor. Their contribution will help ensure that the local marine environment, culture and traditions are represented visually in the Aquatic Centre,” said Amy Elgersma, REACH Committee Chairperson. The REACH Fundraising Committee is a community-based organization that is committed to raising $3 million for the new Aquatic facility. WWF’s commitment of $15,000, raised through the joint WWF/Coca-Cola “Arctic Home” campaign will be used to create the arctic marine life mural in the Aquatic Centre. The mural will be designed by a local artist selected by the Aquatic Centre Artistic Panel made up of representatives of the REACH Committee, WWF and project architects. As a champion level sponsor, WWF-Canada will receive recognition on the permanent founder’s wall in the new Aquatic Centre, on-site signage and other promotion leading up to the opening of the facility. To date the REACH campaign has raised over $300,000 through fundraisers, corporate sponsors, community gifting and personal donations. For information on the campaign please go to reachiqaluit.
