WWI Project Co-ordinator (Lest We Forget) Portsmouth Museums Place: Portsmouth Closing Date: 15th November 2013, Salary: £26,539 - £28,922 p.a. Portsmouth Museums and Visitor Services is responsible for the care of the citys museum collections - comprising some 0.5 million items that document the history and culture of the city - and for making them accessible to both residents and visitors. The service operates Portsmouth Museum, D-Day Museum, Southsea Castle, Dickens Birthplace, Cumberland House Natural History Museum and Eastney Beam Engine House. We are committed to using Portsmouths museum collections to deliver a range of outcomes for local communities as well as visitors to the city. In 2014 we will commemorate the anniversary of the start of WW1, with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), by presenting the collections that document the contributions made by individuals to the war effort and supporting local communities inspired by the exhibition to undertake research and contribute further information, objects and archives. The purpose of this post is to deliver the project, coordinating the contributions made by museum and archive staff, community groups, volunteers, university staff and interns to the Lest We Forget exhibition that opens at Portsmouth Museum in July 2014. The post will also ensure that everything is in place to support the next community-based phase of the project. The post is essentially the project lead, responsible for managing the research, development and production phases of the exhibition including for example: the recruitment of volunteers, ensuring the community groups involved are supported, updating the A Tale of One City Website as planned, ensuring good communication throughout, ensuring evaluation tools are in place, marketing, preparing reports; ensuring the project is delivered on time and to budget and delivers our aspirations. A Project Assistant will be recruited to support the Project Coordinator. The role will require liaison with colleagues across the council. The post will be based at Portsmouth Museum. Some travel within the city will be required. This post is suited to an individual with a positive attitude and a wide range of skills including good communication and project management. - Experience of co-ordinating exhibitions or similar projects involving contributors from a number of organisations and groups based on museum and archive collections - Experience of community engagement and the evaluation tools utilised to measure impact of projects similar to Lest We Forget - Excellent organisational and project-management skills - Well developed interpersonal and negotiation skills - Educated to graduate level or equivalent professional experience in a similar role - Knowledge of British History, especially of the First World War period is desirable - A full clean driving licence would be helpful - Able to communicate effectively across all mediums (written and verbal) - Adaptable and able to work flexibly as part of a team - Able to prioritise, manage a busy workload and work to deadlines and budgets - Approachable, self-motivated, non-judgemental, sensitive and able to deal with many different people and cultures - Confident, composed and resilient under pressure For more information and instructions on how to apply please visit jobsatportsmouth.co.uk/job_details.aspx?jid=4076
