WWII Veterans 109th Infantry Regiment shared a link. October 30 youtube/watch?v=dCmjWEH5aMY Today we begin our journey 70 years ago as the 28th Division was getting ready to launch their first attack into the Huertgen Forest. The 109ths objective for the 10/31 attack was to head north through the forest to reach the woodline above the town of Huertgen. But the battle plans required air support, which required favorable weather, not the normal weather pattern for this densely forested terrain with rain, fog and mist. The 109th was able to avoid the artillery fire from B&B ridge, with no KIAs by the time they reached the saw mill in Germeter to dig in for the night when they got the news at 2000 hours that the attack was delayed due to the predicted fowl weather, so no air support. They had no idea what was beyond that sawmill in the Death Factory of the Huertgen Forest, but they knew the Germans held the town of Vossenack, which they could see in the distance. We will follow the soldiers of the 109th into their Green Hell until the nightmare ends for them on 11/19. The video clip is from a documentary with an overall look at the battle and features some 28th Division footage during the battle. https://youtube/watch?v=dCmjWEH5aMY
