WYONG MASTERS CELEBRATE 10 YEARS Wyong Masters Swimming club recently celebrated ten years of Masters Swimming in Wyong on the NSW Central Coast. In 2003 Ruth Wall realised there was a need for a club in the community and she approached her employer, Mark Pratley who was the President of the Toukley Titans Amateur Swimming Club and the owner of the Charmhaven Swim Centre. The Titans accepted her proposal to run an AUSSI Masters Club under their affiliation and the Toukley Titans AUSSI Masters Club was formed. Membership grew and they were meeting and training in a 17.5 metre training pool but their aim was to branch out and independently assume their own identity. In 2004 wll members contributed to naming their club and they were affiliated and became the WYONG WOBBYGONGS. By 2005 the thrill of competition and personal goals hit them and they won Division 4 of the NSW Point Score competition. But the larger clubs were looking at them wondering in 2007 as they had members swimming in every carnival possible and they won Division 3. They had transferred from Charmhaven to Toukley Aquatic Centre as they had 17 members at this point and Charmhaven was too small. In the period from 2007 to 2010 they grew to 25 members and they were swimming in National Championships at Darwin, Perth, Melbourne and Tasmania coming away with medals and PB times. The club is what it is today due to the hard work of all members but Ruth Wall particularly thanks Greg Martin who sadly passed away in 2013 but contributed so much to the club with his great sense of humour and wit. Ruth thanks all their members and thanks them for supporting the club in the true spirit of the Masters Swimming motto, Fitness, Friendship and Fun. Wyong currently meet every Monday evening at the Toukley Aquatic Centre from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
