Waco Trib Letters to the editor on 7-20-2014 More protests by Republicans against local Republican leadership Something smells Just as the votes of our legislators are open for the public to see, I wish to be transparent and open as well. Regarding the closed-door meeting of precinct chairs charged with selecting candidates for Justice of the Peace Precnct 1, I voted for Judge Kristi DeCluitt and for Judge Pete Peterson. In the case of Kristi, the primary reason is simply that the voters have already spoken several times and they spoke with conviction, by a wide margin. I am fed up with politicians who go to Washington and don’t represent us, doing only what they want to do. Even if I had wanted someone else, I would have been honor-bound to my Precinct 23 voters to vote for the person that the constituents want. Secondly, I got calls, emails and a personal letter from voters within Precinct 23 asking me to vote for Kristi and Pete. No one else was even mentioned. Third, my husband, now retired as an assistant auditor for McLennan County, worked with Kristi and vouches for the good job that she did while he was there. That proved to me that her work ethic and the performance of her duties deserve another chance until the next election. Then, and only then, let the people decide if they want a change. These reasons, along with Kristi’s education and experience, made voting for her the only decision that made any sense. Jeanie Davis, Precinct 23 Chair, Woodway __________________________________________________ To members of the McLennan County Republican Executive Committee meeting behind closed doors: What were you thinking? There were four people vying for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, Place 1 and Place 2. Belinda Summers has more than 20 years experience, Kristi DeCluitt has eight years experience. By contrast, Pete Peterson has only two years experience and Diane Hensley has no experience at all. And who did you choose to run come November? The two with the least experience! Committee chairman Ed Brown made the statement that the committee chose “the best candidates.” Best at what? I guess it is true. It is who you know and not what you know. Shame on all of you! You have not only cheated Republicans in this county but you have cheated the voters of McLennan County. The Democrats should be mighty happy with you! Becky McPherson, Riesel
